Kandy Cross
Kandy was born in Burlington, North Carolina, in "Tobacco Road" and the Academic Research Triangle in the Piedmont region. She created art since the earliest time that she can remember, often drawing on lined pages and providing illustrations in the margins of books that she devoured.
After earning a degree in art education and communication arts at East Carolina University in Greenville,
she taught art in Virginia public schools and studied at the American University in Aix-en-Provence, France. She retired from a structured teaching
setting to pursue her ultimate passion-
following her dream of becoming a professional artist.
Cross divides her time between home
in Virginia Beach, Virginia , near the
Atlantic Ocean, and excursions to Italy
and surrounding Mediterranean retreats.
With an eye for nature and architecture, she has traveled in the
footsteps of Picasso, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Bonnard, and Monet. Her style ranges from Post-Impressionism to Realism as she features colorful
panoramic watercolor seascapes and
landscapes. Her oeuvre is included in
a growing list of private and corporate
collections. Her images invoke a metaphor for life, the window, an
interpretation of the connection of the soul, nature, and
ourselves. She paints the beauty that
surrounds her utilizing color, light, and texture inspired by motifs inherent to Mediterranean and Caribbean cultures.
